I have always been a fan of mechs/mecha and was glad that the genre has been gaining some popularity recently. Hawken is an Online Multiplayer game with a very interesting art style. The art style is very reminiscent of Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, and even WWII. I loved the mech designs and decided to build the assault mech from the game. It reminds me somewhat of a submarine with legs and has a very interesting profile from what you normally see in mechs.
I recently learned how to create 2D orthographic drawings using a 3D program called Blender. This is the first time I have really used 3D software but I still am scratch building this the old fashion way by using reference photos and 2D blueprints only. I don’t think I will ever make the jump to full 3D and Pepakura just because I like the challenge of figuring it out myself. I will admit that having scaled drawings of all different sides of a model made my life much easier and allowed me to make this far more accurately and faster than on past projects. I will definitely be doing this in the future when I can. I also finally made the transition from XACTO knifes to a Swann Morton scalpel. I have wanted to make this switch for some time and scalpels really are superior. The blades stay sharp much longer, they don’t chip or break, and the handle holds the blades very securely. I definitely recommend one to anyone who is a fan of this hobby.
